Ka-26 Destroyed by Fire in Accident in Siberia
A helicopter was consumed by fire in Kashtan, Krasnoyarsk territory, Siberia as a result of an accident.
The Ka-26 helicopter belonging to a Transsibneft oil-pumping facility hit a fuel tank with its rotor during takeoff at about 4:40 p.m. Moscow time on Thursday, Interfax was told at the territorial interior department on Friday.
Preliminary reports attribute the steep bank of the helicopter to a strong headwind. The fuel from the damaged tank started burning and a fire broke out at the oil facility.
The 39-year-old pilot was hospitalized with severe burns.
